SANAT KAR
The linear assumes the sinuous movements of a dance in Sanat
Kar's paintings, where the surface wit is infused with irony. It
invites one into ' poignant solitude,' as Kar declares.
Born 1935. He joined the Government College of
Art and Craft at Kolkata in 1950. After matriculation along
with fellow-students Kar formed a group called The Artists'
Circle in 1952. A very senior artist, he taught at Kala Bhavan,
Santi Niketan for many years.
